Hanif for medical entrance tests ‎

Awami League Joint General Secretary Mahbub-ul-Alam Hanif has advocated reinstatement of entrance examinations for medical and dental colleges in the wake of protests against the government move to allocate seats on the basis on SSC and HSC GPAs only.

"Students have been nursing the dream of getting admitted for a long time. I am hoping that the Health Minister, the Education Minister and the people concerned will take the reality into account and arrange for entrance exams."

He was speaking at a discussion organised by the Dhaka University unit of the Bangladesh Chhatra League, the ruling party's student wing, at the DU TSC on Thursday.

Only a day back, medical and dental college admission seekers observed a sit-in at the university pressing for admission tests.

Health Minister A F M Rufal Haque announced on Aug 12 that GPAs in the SSC and HSC examinations would be the sole yardstick to ensure, what he said, 'quality admissions' in medical and dental colleges.

The decision triggered a wave of protests from students ready to sit the MBBS and BDS admission tests. A lawyer challenged the decision in the High Court that asked the government to explain its move.

The agitating students resumed their protest on Monday after a two-week break for the Eid-ul-Fitr and other vacations and submitted a memorandum stating their demands at the Prime Minister Office.
